In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx our teams handle more than 156,000 outpatient visits, more than 50,000 emergency room visits and more than 7,500 admissions annually in the 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.


The PAGNY Health and Research Foundation (PHRF), on behalf of North Central Bronx (NCB) and Jacobi hospitals, proposes to conduct a large scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) to replicate the Teen Options to Prevent Pregnancy (T.O.P.P.) A program that was originally developed and successfully implemented by OhioHealth. The study aims to reduce rapid repeat pregnancy and promote healthy birth spacing among adolescent mothers in New York City (NYC) by using (1) telephone-based, and in-person care coordination, (2) facilitated access to contraceptive services, and (3) referrals to social support services. These services will be delivered to program participants over an 18-month period by nurse educators trained in motivational interviewing (MI) and a dedicated social worker.

The NYC-T.O.P.P. RCT will recruit 1000 adolescent mothers ages 10 to 19 from 11 hospitals operated by New York City Health and Hospitals (H+H) and will offer the NYC-T.O.P.P. program to 500 randomly selected mothers. H+H is the largest municipal healthcare system in the nation. From 2015-2017, these 11 hospitals delivered 3,087 babies from mothers under the age of 20. The vast majority of adolescent mothers are low-income minorities from the poorest NYC neighborhoods.

SUMMARY and PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Program Manager, reporting to the PI, has the responsibility to oversee program implementation and ensure program fidelity, as well as manage the participant recruitment process, program budget, and communications with personnel at different institutions. The Program Manager must have prior experience in managing multi-site studies in this capacity. The Program Manager will serve as the main point of contact for research assistants and L&D staff at each of the 11 hospitals. He/she will visit the hospital and provide random audits of the recruitment and consent process, in addition to maintaining all documentation for the Research Binder. In addition, the Program Manager will meet regularly with H+H Central Office staff and PHRF to report on progress and provide assurance that H+H and PHRF operational and research protocols are adhered to at all times. Scheduling appointments and ensuring fulfillment of appointments between program participants and RNs is critically important and will require ongoing effort from the Program Manager during the first three years of project implementation.


This position reports to the PI Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu and is the point of contact 1 1.5 FTE Nurse educators, 2 social workers, and 1-11 part-time research assistants.

Job duties:

  • serve as the liaison between the PI and L&D staff at the 11 hospitals,
  • provide overall coordination of program implementation and coordination with the data team (Mathematica)
  • prepare progress and final reports,
  • manage the budget,
  • provide administrative support,
  • manage Nurse Educator schedules,
  • oversee referral services to ensure visit fulfillment,
  • collect and analyze data,
  • convene progress meetings with the PI.
  • As needed duties related to grant objective

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • The Program Manager, who will be familiar with proper research processes and guidelines, will also provide ongoing monitoring of compliance with research regulatory procedures and hospital policies.
  • The Program Manager must have prior experience in managing multi-site studies in this capacity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS Minimum
  • Three years health research and data management
  • Organized, detail oriented
